This robotic cathode stripping cell used Fanuc M900/600 robots for a more flexible stripping process compared to traditional hydraulic stripping machines. Automation Solutions was originally involved in the programming of the prototype machines for Glencore Technology in Townsville, and also assisted to refine the application onsite at CST’s Lady Annie mining operation in North West Queensland, as well as providing Fanuc robot training for the maintenance crews.
An Allen Bradley Compact Logix PLC controls operations within the cell.
The Fanuc robots were optioned with severe dust and liquid protection as they are located in a very harsh environment, being exposed to acid mist from the tank house and a grueling desert environment.
Also installed was Fanuc DCS, providing a safety rated software boundary to where the robots can operate within this robotic cathode stripping cell.
